"Stupid" Comedies .. Naked Gun, Top Secret, Schindler's List (jokes)....

hey everyone, its been a while since ive posted here.. missed it.. anyway.. my buddy and i are wanting to write and make a slapstick kind of comedy like Naked Gun, Scary Movie, Top Secret etc.. like, all that type of stuff Dave Zucker would make.. and yeah we are just starting, i was wondering if anyone could help by like, posting tips for us.. we are going to fill it with stuff like, people getting hurt etc, caus that, when its done properly, is really funny.. so yeah, if you could post anything, even stuff with Editing, it'd be great..

Well you have to decide what you want to take the **** out of first, like police squad was cop shops, airplane! Was disaster movies etc. So pick a genera that has been over done recently like superheroes, serial killer films etc., write a basic story line then look back over you film library to pick some memorable scenes that you can steal, for example the final light saber fight in star wars has been done to death in spoofs. Look at the trailers for 2003 summer films and rip the memorable scenes from that, be the first to skit the hulk! Shock works to, don?t forget that when Airplane! Came out there was a storm. Look at the Zuckers early stuff like the Kentucky Fried Movie which has the great fistful of yen in it.

We did a slasher spoof called "Slaughter Beach" a while back, and it sounds like we were trying for the same vibe you're going for with your new project. Comedy is a very fickle mistress, but I can share this with you. One element to keep in mind is that its not always the line or the scene, but how the actor delivers the line.

Dead-pan delivery is key.

For example, in "Top Secret", Val Kilmer delivers some really classic lines, such as when he tells Hillary that he was adpoted by the "Pre-Teen Maternity Wear" department of a store. The first time you see the movie, it takes you a few seconds to realize just how funny the line is because the delivery didn't scream "HEY, HERE COMES A JOKE". The comedy takes you by surprise.

Leslie Neilson is legendary for this ability. Too many examples to cite.
